Councilwoman Denise Ridley

Ward A, Jersey City

Biography

Councilwoman Denise Ridley is a life-long Jersey City resident.  She earned her undergraduate degree at Hampton University and a masters from Montclair State University. Through the years, Denise has provided pro bono executive coaching as well as developed new job descriptions, performance management structures, and discipline policies for companies in the pharmaceutical and education industries. The Councilwoman spent 16 years in a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, Denise is also a licensed real estate agent.

Denise has worn many hats over the years. This is clearly displayed by her involvement in organizations and community service activities. Ms. Ridley is currently a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and Rotary Club.  She is the Chairwoman of the Bayfront Redevelopment Advisory Board and Vice-Chair of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency. She has served as Committeewoman for her district since first being elected in 2013.  

In her role as Councilwoman, Denise has added signature yearly events to the Ward such as the Ward A MLK Day of Service and Trunk or Treat.  She has introduced legislation that has led to stricter laws around vaping, the establishment of a Jersey City Black Business Day, is currently working with State legislators and officials from other municipalities on the establishment of Civilian Complaint Review Board, and has added close to 100 new parking spaces in the Ward. Denise is determined to continue moving Ward A forward though collaboration with its residents.  She believes in an inclusive approach to government and supports her neighbors in Ward A.  Ms. Ridley truly believes service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.
